Steven A. Thielke Appointed General Manager at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.

Kuala Lumpur, 22 January 2013 - Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), known as one of the most upmarket golfing destinations in Malaysia has recently appointed Steven A. Thielke as the new General Manager.

A South African national, Steven takes up the reins of the award-winning KLGCC with two 18-hole championship courses which hosts the nation’s two largest tournaments, Maybank Malaysian Open and the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.

In his most recent role, he served as a General Manager, Hotels & Golf Management at CITIC Pacific Limited in Hong Kong spearheading a stunning 36-hole golf destination in Hainan, China designed by Tom Weiskopf called The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula since year 2007. The golf resort opened in early 2011 alongside two Starwood Hotels & Resorts properties that feature a total of 630 keys. Since it opened, it coveted many international accolades including the ‘Best Golf Course in China by Robb Report Best of the Best Awards (2011)’ and ‘2011-2012 Best Golf Resorts in China by Golf Magazine (China)’.

Prior to his tenure with CITIC Pacific Limited, he was General Manager in the renowned golfing and leisure resort called Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate in George, South Africa since year 2002. It was the home to a number of prestigious events such as The President’s Cup 2003, The Women’s World Cup 2005, The South African Open 2005 and Nelson Mandela 46664 rock concert with world celebrated artists such as Will Smith, Queen, Katie Malua and Annie Lennox, to name a few. The establishment had garnered many awards including the ‘2004 Golf Resort of the Year award by IAGTO (International Association of Golf Tour Operators)’.

With a wealth of over 25 years of hospitality experience in hotel, golf and club industry, he was also the General Manager at Glendower Golf Club and Wanderers Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa and he has held senior positions at Mount Edgecombe Country Club in Durban, South Africa and Sun City including Gary Player Country Club and the opening of The Lost City Golf Course.

Originally opened in 1991, KLGCC is one of Sime Darby Property’s leading leisure centres under its hospitality arm. Both the West and East Courses were completely redesigned by renowned international golf course architects, E & G Parslow, and then re-opened in 2008 and 2010 respectively. The high quality of construction is synonymous with Sime Darby and incorporates state-of-the art technologies and impressive attention to detail.
