Dato’ Anne Eu to host Women with Drive Networking Brunch for Cancer Research Malaysia at TPC Kuala Lumpur’s Qureshi restaurant

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 October 2016 – The seventh edition of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia will once again see the tournament collaborate with ground-breaking cancer research organisation, Cancer Research Malaysia, in line with the tournament falling at the end of the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The collaboration has had a direct impact on the improvement in outcome for Malaysian cancer patients, with RM 2.5 million raised over the years, of which over 90% has been channelled directly into cancer research.

Speaking on the impact that the tournament has had on raising funds for breast cancer research, Cancer Research Malaysia Chief Executive Professor Dr Teo Soo Hwang said, “Through the support of the Sime Darby Foundation, corporates and the large number of spectators attending the tournament over the years, Cancer Research Malaysia and the Ministry of Health have managed to establish one of the first patient navigation programmes in Malaysia.”

“There’s no question that the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia has had direct impact on saving lives in Malaysia. With the funding, we will ensure that patients, regardless whether rich or poor, can receive the information and support they need to have an improved chance of surviving breast cancer,” she added.

Women with Drive Networking Brunch

One of the highlights of the charity’s activities at this year’s tournament will be the Women with Drive Networking Brunch at TPC Kuala Lumpur’s superlative Indian restaurant Qureshi on ‘Pink Saturday’ which falls on 29th October.

Hosted by Dato’ Anne Eu, a Trustee for the charity, a key feature of the fundraiser will be the Women with Drive speaker panel which is set to include the likes of 2016 Merdeka Award recipient for Health, Science and Technology Professor Datuk Dr. Looi Lai Meng, University Malaya YM Professor Dato’ Dr Tunku Sara Tunku Ahmad Yahaya and Sarah Chen. A woman with a long list of accolades to her name, Chen is Co-Founder of Asia Women Circle, that drives women empowerment platform "Lean In Malaysia".

“Breast cancer awareness is a great cause and one that I am very pleased to lend my support to. We need to be doing more in Malaysia to raise awareness of cancer and tackle some of the social stigmas attached to cancer in general. I very much look forward to participating in what will be a lively and informative discussion, and would encourage as many people as possible to come and participate and support an extremely worthwhile cause,” said Chen.

With each speaker at the brunch sharing their views on the trials and tribulations of breast cancer, from the perspectives of scientist, survivor, caregiver and working professional as well as activist, the Women With Drive Networking Brunch promises to be a truly engaging event.

Visitors to the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia are also encouraged to visit the Cancer Research Malaysia booth at the main entrance to the clubhouse in the Piano Lounge to learn how one’s involvement could help highlight the importance of recognising research as a crucial element in cancer prevention.

The tournament also launched its #SimeDarbyLPGAPrettyinPink contest at the start of October, inviting the public to share their favourite pink #OOTD (Outfit Of The Day) on Facebook. Visitors who tag their photos with #SimeDarbyLPGAPrettyinPink stand a chance to bag themselves a pair of VIP tickets for the tournament weekend.
