MALAYSIA’S FIRST “CLASS A” GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Renowned as Malaysia’s ultimate destination for a premier golf and country club experience, TPC Kuala Lumpur is home to two prestigious championship golf courses which are highly- praised by golfers globally for their exceptional condition and quality.

The pristine greens and remarkable condition of the golf courses are largely credited to the team which is headed by Mohd Nizam Othman. The outstanding commitment and ability of his team in preserving the golf course were ultimately proven with its list of international awards and the privilege to host high profile tournaments such as Maybank Malaysian Open, Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and CIMB Classic annually, since 2013 – 2015.

Adding to his credentials, Nizam has recently been awarded a Class A membership status by meeting the standards established by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), stamping him the first Malaysian Superintendent to be awarded with such recognition.

GCSAA Class A membership is awarded to members who are currently employed as a golf course superintendent and have met specific requirements and at least three years of experience as a golf course superintendent.

His dedication, passion and commitment in delivering a world class golf course has without a doubt earned him a Class A Membership of the GSCAA. A proud Johorean with over 20 years of experience in managing golf courses under his belt, Nizam is one of the very few Superintendents in Asia who has worked with both the PGA TOUR, LPGA and European TOUR in preparing TPCKL for major international tournaments.

He is the Vice President of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of Malaysia and also the Superintendent Certification Advisory in Asian Golf Industry Federation (AGIF). In addition to that, Nizam was one of the six superintendents that had the privilege to participate in the famed John Deere Volunteer Program during the prestigious Players Championship that was held at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, back in 2014.

 “I am very happy and grateful to be awarded such great recognition. It is indeed a huge accomplishment for myself which I dedicate to my family, the club and the country.” said Nizam.

“This is another stepping stone for a more exciting adventure in the golf industry that I aim to bring value and excellence for the pleasure of avid golfers”. he added.

Nizam has been engaged in golf course management since 1995 after having completed a degree from the Malaysian Agriculture Institute and a Turf Management Course at the New Zealand Sports Turf Institute. Asked about his source of motivation, Nizam whose wife is a physics lecturer and together they have four children; said – “Being a husband and a father made me a better man.”
