KLGCC is Most Energy Efficient

KLGCC is Most Energy Efficient

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 JULY 2013 – Malaysia’s premier golf destination; Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (“KLGCC”) marked another notable achievement as the first hospitality and leisure establishment in Malaysia to secure the ISO 50001:2011 certification from SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd. The certification endorsed KLGCC with having the gold standard for energy management systems.

KLGCC General Manager Steven Thielke said, “The energy management initiative is significant because KLGCC did not incur any capital outlay. Since the establishment of the Energy Management System in KLGCC in March 2013, the Clubhouse has gradually reduced electricity consumption by 4.24% as compared to the last financial year’s consumption.” In the financial year 2012/13, KLGCC’s total electricity consumption was 8,948,963 kWh equivalent to RM3.4 million compared to 2011/12 of 9,345,479 kWh which cost RM3.5 million. SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd Lead Auditor Hawa binti Ma’arof said, “After numerous quality assessments and monitoring on energy saving initiatives at KLGCC, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd hereby certifies KLGCC as the first ISO 50001:2011 organisation in the scope of Management of Golf Course and Clubhouse Operations and Recreation Facilities including Support Services with zero non-conformance.”

Following in Sime Darby’s footsteps in living by its sustainability motto, Thielke added that it is vital to continue being vigilant in managing energy through minimal costs to further enhance KLGCC’s sustainability efforts.

In 2012, Sime Darby Property was the first organisation in Malaysia to receive the ISO 50001:2011 certification from SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd. The certification covers the energy management system for the operation and maintenance of property assets. In January this year, KLGCC took a valiant step to embark on this project to obtain certification of ISO 50001:2001 Energy Management System. Guided by the Quality, Efficiency, Safety and Health (QESH) Unit of Property Investment/Hospitality, the KLGCC Management team and staff were actively involved in a series of training and efficient energy initiatives throughout the Clubhouse including the golf course.
